Do you have any idea of the amount of diseases and health problems caused by obesity? from type 2 diabetes to low blood pressure, insuline and many more illnesses are the result of eating unhealthy and junk food on our every day life. The people at more risk are our children, they dont have idea of the consequences of taking that junk in to our body every day.
Is your responsability as a parent of the child to teach them and educate them on the correct habits of eating. If the whole family has a problem of obesity you need to show by example to you kids what is the right things to eat, what nutrients and vitamins they should take every day. Is not enough to tell them what not to eat, they should know what they should eat, fruits, vegetables and food high in nutrients.
There are different causes for childhood obesity, some might not be your fault, but you have to understand that most of the time its our lifestyle the problem.

Lack of exercise has become a very common problem that lead to obesity. Children are losing the habit of going with their friends to play football or to make so outside activity, they want to watch Tv and play addictive video games. It doesent mean that its evil to watch tv and video games, but using those for hours is brainwashing and avoids the practice of other physical activities.
Eating fast food has become an addiction that is poisoning people, a lot of people know that eating fast food is unhealthy, but they dont know the consequences and dont want to think about it. Eating fast food regularly with make you obese and provoke diseases that might not happen immediately but in a few years you will be done.
Not eating nutrients and vitamins in our food is cause of overweight. We are just buying processed food full of fat and sugars that is not adding anything healthy to our foods. So even when you are making food at home, you are not giving your child anything healthy that will help their body.
Our lifestyle, everything that causes obesity is in our lifestyle, we have to change some things in our lifestyle for us to be healthy. For example, if your children are all the day sitting at school and then they come home and they are sitting watching tv and playing video games and then on the weekend they go to the movies and all this while eating, you are setting your child for a fat life. They are doing nothing or the minimum physical effort, they are not doing any exercise and they are buying all the junk that tv sell us.
There could be other reasons for childhood obesity like genetics in the family, but most of the time obesity can be avoided following a proper lifestyle and nutrition plan. You can not continue to feed your child with the junk that is sold on TV and mass media.
