Childhood Obesity Epidemic Causes |
We know that obesity is huge problem in America there are countless of weight loss products being advertised, but most people is not aware that childhood obesity has become an epidemic of shocking proportions that will greatly reduce the life expectancy of them.
But what are the true causes of childhood obesity, what is causing our kids to have serious health problems that we didnt have 20 years ago, are we doing something wrong or is it just the environment we are living on?
There are several causes, lets take a look at some of them:
Children are having a more sedentary lifestyle and are not doing physical activities, they are watching tv and playing video games more time than they are at school or doing something else.
Our child are eating more junk food, they are eating unhealthy lunches full of snacks, sugars, fats and they are not eating anything healthy at all.
Families are not cooking food anymore, they are buying fast foods, ready to go breakfast full of sugars and our child are not eating fruits and vegetables anymore.
Low self esteem, boredom, sadness, depression those are sometimes are causes of obesity, people with emotional problems tend to eat more and do less.
The above causes are mostly our responsibility as parents and teachers, however the environment in which we are living is worst than years ago, here is why:
Every year there are millions of dollars spent on advertising junk food and unhealthy food for children, they are available everywhere and the government dont ker about the health issues.
There should be physical activities in every school and they should teach children how to have a healthy lifestyle and why.
The media is constantly telling us what to buy and that is what is more easily available, so we buy something that is quick an easy to do.
We seem to live in a rush so we are cooking less and buying ready to go food, that we can eat on the go or take to our table to eat it as it is.
All those are causes that contribute to this epidemic, there should be some empirical studies on childhood obesity to get a more accurate idea of what is going on. Take care of your family promote healthy eating habits and physical activities.
