Statistics On Childhood Obesity

Childhood obesity is becoming a problem not just in America but in different countries of the world. For instance, its been said that china that its known to eat healthy is having a lot of childhood obesity, most of the times due to fast food chains and lack of exercise and increase in video games and computer demand.

Here are some statistics on childhood obesity:

About 16% of kids between 16 to 19 years old are overweight, that is triple the amount of 1980. Also 15% are at risk of becoming obese, those are from studies made between 1999-2002.

In the past 30 years according to "Centers of Disease Control and Prevention", childhood obesity rate for kids aged 2-5 years and adolescents 12-19 years old has doubled. And tripled in children between 6-11 years old.

Teens or adolescents that are overweight have as high as 70% of becoming obese adults. Those statistics are really alarming and its time to put attention at what we are eating and what our children are eating.

Costs

The costs of children and adolescents at hospitals has tripled from $35,000,000 between 1979-81 to $127,000,000 between 1997-99.

According to some experts lack of exercise and bad eating habits are some of the reasons of obesity. One direct correlation is fast food, the growing trend of eating junk fast food is causing more unhealthy and obese children.

One third of US children between 4-19 years old, eat just fast food every single day, that is causing 6 extra pounds each year per child. Its important to take note of this trend and take the necessary measures of your eating habit and your child eating habits.

What is worse is that, the risk of getting diseases increases with obesity like type 2 diabetes and many others that are not documented.

Sixty percent of children with obesity between 5 to 10 years old, had at least 1 risk factor of cardiovascular disease like, high cholesterol, insulin, blood pressure, triglycerides.

Those are just some statistics on obesity in children that you have to understand and really think about what are you going to do. Our lifestyle is killing us, not just you, but your child. Fast food can not be the a daily diet for your kids.
